The Droplet Tool

The Droplet Tool may be used in both Melody, Percussion and Sketch Windows.

In the Melody and Percussion Windows

The Droplet Tool is used to place notes in the Melody and Percussion Windows.

To place a note, first select the Droplet Tool then click anywhere in a Melody or Percussion Window. When a note appears it will be selected by default and be surrounded by a red box with two drag points or handles, one at either end. To change the length of a note after it has been placed, click and drag either of these handles. To adjust placement of the selected note either click and drag it into position or use the left/right and up/down arrow keys for finer movements. When the note is correctly placed, click anywhere else to deselect it.

The Droplet Tool may be used at any time to select a note for editing of length or position.

In the Sketch Window

The Droplet Tool may also be used in the Sketch Window. Selecting the Droplet Tool and clicking anywhere in the Sketch Window will place a Chord Droplet. These droplets will sound a three-note chord rather then musical material from a Melody or Percussion Window. The kind of chord sounded by a Droplet will depend on the color. The colors and their respective chord types are:

Placing the Chord Droplet higher or lower in the Sketch Window will change the pitch (root) of the chord, but not the type of chord itself.

In 'None' (no harmony) mode, the Chord Droplets will always sound as their respective types. In the other harmonized modes, the notes of the Chord Droplets will shift to the underlying harmony. For more on the harmony modes, see Introduction to Harmony.
