The Arrow Tool

The Arrow Tool is used to select notes, strokes or other objects for a variety of operations.

To select a Melody, Percussion or Sketch window choose the Arrow Tool and click anywhere in the window. The window will be selected and the playbar will appear at the bottom of the window.

To select a note in a Melody or Percussion Window, choose the Arrow Tool and click on the note. The note will be highlighted by a red box with handles at either end.

To select a stroke in the Sketch Window, choose the Arrow Tool and click on the stroke. The stroke will then be highlighted by a red box containing the Volume and Unharmonize tools.

To select a Track in a Percussion Window, choose the Arrow Tool and click on any empty section of the track.

It is possible to select multiple strokes in the Sketch Window and multiple notes in the Motive Window.

To select multiple strokes in the Sketch Window, choose the Arrow Tool, then click and drag a square around the desired strokes. Alternatively, select the Arrow Tool and Shift-click on each desired stroke in turn.

To select multiple notes in a Melody or Percussion Window, choose the Arrow Tool, then click and drag a square around the desired notes.

If the click-drag action begins in the window, then this operation may be completed in a single stage. If the click-drag action begins on the background canvas, then it may be necessary to first select the window (Motive or Sketch) containing the desired notes. Then, with the window selected, begin the click-drag to select the desired group of notes. This may be a useful technique for selecting the entire contents of a motive.

It is also possible to select a number of specific elements (notes or strokes) from a complex texture by using the Arrow Tool and Shift-clicking on the required elements.

Selected material may then be moved, cut, copied or pasted between windows.

To move selected material up/down or left/right, simply click and drag the selected group. Alternatively use the up/down and left/right arrow keys for finer movements.
